The 2021 college football season is here! Along with the IDP devy stock market update! Week 4 is now in the books and the season is rolling right along. Now you’re looking for any possible stocks that are trending upward to invest in. Or maybe you need to know which players you can move for a high return.
I’m here to help you diversify your fantasy portfolios and get the maximum return on your investments. Each week, I’ll give you three-player stocks that are trending up or three that are trending down. Let's Take a closer look at what stocks you should invest in.
IDP Devy Investments
Verone McKinley III, S, Oregon
My first IDP devy stock market buy is one of the top safeties in the country, but in case you don’t know, it’s Oregon’s Verone McKinnley III. One of the best defenders you’ll find at the safety position in the country. He was an All-American cornerback as a redshirt freshman and led the Pac-12 in interceptions (4). The first freshman to do so since 1978.
McKinley III would make the switch to safety as a sophomore. There would be a bit of a learning curve with the position switch but he would record 46 tackles for the second straight season. However, his interceptions would drop to just one. Now that he has a year of experience at safety under his belt, he’s back to his old tricks of tormenting QBs.
Through the first three games this year, he’s on pace to record career highs across the board. On the season he has already produced 17 tackles and three interceptions, which includes a two-interception performance last week versus Stony Brook. As you can see he’s a big impact play producer.
This is exactly the type of player that you want for your IDP devy/C2C teams. More importantly, McKinley III is a player that you’re going to want for your NFL fantasy rosters. He’s rostered in just 21% of Fantrax leagues and that’s with a 5.8% increase from the previous week. McKinnley will cost you pennies to invest in but will give you a high return. Go check your waiver wire and add a tier-one safety to your team(s).
Tyler Grubbs, LB, Louisiana Tech
Next on my IDP Devy stock market investment list is a name you may have heard me mention before, linebacker Tyler Grubbs of Louisiana Tech. Because he’s not a household name from a big brand school, fantasy managers continue to sleep on a high-producing stock option. All he did last year in the Initial Public Offering (IPO) of his stock, is earn Freshman All-American honors and lead Conference USA in tackles (99).
Here we are in year two and Grubbs is still not receiving the love that he deserves. Three games into the season and he’s already produced 27 tackles, including a 13 tackle output last week versus SMU. Grubbs has 126 (9.69 per game) tackles in 13 career games.
Despite the high return that investors could potentially be getting, Grubbs is only rostered in 40% of Fantrax leagues. That’s crazy low, considering the high floor return that he provides on a weekly basis. While I do consider him a high-end stock for your IDP devy/C2C teams, I do have some reservations about his NFL potential.
The two things that I have questions about are his size and the competition level he faces. Even with those concerns, I am all in on Grubbs for IDP devy leagues. He will be a plug-and-play option that I won’t have to worry about. I advise you to pick him up off waivers or ask for him as an add-in in any trades you make. This is the type of IDP devy stock you want in your portfolios.Â
Xavier Henderson, S, Michigan State
Last on my IDP Devy stock market list of buys, is another safety, Xavier Henderson of Michigan State. This senior safety has been a volatile stock over the past four seasons with up and down returns. Luckily for IDP investors, Henderson’s stock is trending back up. He’s having the best start to a season of any year of his career.
Through the first three games, he has 25 tackles, 17 solos, 3 TFLs, 2 sacks, and 1 interception. The TFLs and the sacks are already personal season-best totals for him. Fantasy managers have taken notice of Henderson’s play. He is currently rostered in 61% of Fantrax leagues and is 36.8% from the previous week. Henderson is one of the hottest IDP stocks on the market right now.
Go check your league’s waivers and see if Henderson is available. Hopefully, you’ll get lucky and he will be. He has been filling the box score this season, which is what you want from your fantasy investments. Henderson is a fantasy option that can help you win your league this season. Looking ahead long-term, his potential at the next level looks somewhat promising.
He’ll need to keep this great start going all season to impress NFL scouts and coaches. Remember, there is nothing wrong with stocks that can only help your IDP devy/C2C teams and Henderson will definitely help you there. Plus there is still plenty of time before we have to worry about his NFL potential. Enjoy the high return he is producing now.
IDP Devy Liquidations
Tyler Davis, DT, Clemson
My first IDP devy stock market liquidation is Tyler Davis of the Clemson Tigers. The defensive tackle’s career started off with him looking like the next big star at the position. But over the next two seasons, his play and numbers have fallen off dramatically. As a freshman in 2019, he earned second-team All-ACC honors.
For the season he would start 13 of the 15 games he played which were the most starts in school history by a freshman. Davis would record 45 tackles, 10.5 TFLs, 6.5 sacks, and 2 PBUs. Last year was the horrid Covid-19 season that wrecked everything and Davis battled injuries most of the year. He played in only seven games (all starts) and recorded just 14 tackles, 5 TFLs, and 2 sacks.
I see the downward trend in his fantasy stock continuing with an occasional big game or two sprinkled in. For example, Davis disappeared in game one with only one tackle versus an inferior opponent in SC State. Then last week versus Georgia Tech, he produced six tackles. His return volatility is just too much of a risk for me to keep in my IDP portfolios.
Furthermore, he’s not even the best defensive tackle on the team, that goes to Bryan Bresee. My advice is to sell your shares now, especially since he’s coming off of a decent game. He still has the big brand name value. You should be able to get a decent return for him trades in position-specific leagues.Â
Tariq Speights, LB, Eastern Michigan
Next on my IDP Devy stock market liquidation list is linebacker Tariq Speights of Eastern Michigan. He broke out last season for the Eagles as a sophomore where he averaged nearly nine tackles per game (8.66). I know Speights did this in a Covid-19 shortened season where he played in just six games, but it showed the potential of the type of return he could produce for fantasy managers.
Not everyone knows who Speights is, but the deeply in tune investors that play in deep leagues do. Through three games this year he only has 11 tackles (3.66 avg). That’s a huge drop-off from last year. Not what you want to see from a stock you have invested in.
My advice would be to wait till has a good game and then sell every share of him you have. Capitalize off of the spike week in his value and get something back that’s more profitable. Speights is IDP devy only stock, meaning his long-term NFL value is not promising at all. So this is a stock that you invested in to help you potentially win a devy championship. Again hold and then bulk sell as soon as he has a good game.
