Ha Ha Clinton-Dix agrees to a contract with the San Francisco 49ers.

Ha Ha Clinton-Dix has agreed to terms on a contract with the 49ers per Adam Schefter as said in his tweet here:

Clinton-Dix missed the entire 2020 season after he was released by the Cowboys. This does not sound promising, though from an IDP perspective, Clinton-Dix had had some productive seasons. He started off his career with a couple of red hot seasons, though his inefficiencies forced him to falter. He had short stints with the Washington Football Team, Chicago Bears, and a camp appearance with the Dallas Cowboys, ultimately to go the entire 2020 season without a contract.

    Good Landing Spot

The 49ers are a great landing spot for a safety who is looking to battle for playing time. Jimmie Ward has missed 34 games over his seven seasons in the NFL. Jaquiski Tartt has missed 30 games in his six year NFL season. Tavarious Moore was thought to have an opportunity for playing time after having an up and down 2020 season. Moore unfortunately tore his achilles already and is out for the season. Ward has never eclipsed the 75 tackle mark, and Tartt has never surpassed 70.

Ha Ha Clinton-Dix had five consecutive seasons of at least 79 tackles, three which seasons were 93 tackles or better. Clinton-Dix also has 16 interceptions for his career, more than Tartt and Ward combined. He offers play-making for the 49ers, something their secondary has been missing since the days of Donte Whitner. Clinton-Dix is still only 29 years old and has tread left on the tires.

    Money-backer Role?

Outside of Fred Warner and Dre Greenlaw, the linebacker group is thin as well. Clinton-Dix could possibly play some box safety for the 49ers. He has never been the most efficient tackler with a missed tackle rate of just under 10%. He does at the ability to play more coverage from the middle of the field on tight ends and slot receivers. This in turn would allow Fred Warner to play more free and be a true play-maker. Fred Warner is one of the best linebackers in the business. Allowing him to play more free will only make him a better player.

It is definitely worth adding Clinton-Dix to your fantasy rosters if you are in deep dynasty leagues. He will cost nothing but a roster spot on the end of your bench. There is the opportunity of a career resurgence, though he has some hurtles to leap. With how often injured the 49ers safeties are, as well as how thin they are at the linebacker position, Clinton-Dix has the potential to fill a nice role with the 49ers. The 49ers worked out a number of other safeties, yet it was Clinton-Dix who walked away with the contract. Now it is time to show up at camp.
