Welcome to the 2022 IDP recap and 2023 deep dynasty profile for Jets Edge Rusher/ Defensive End Jermaine Johnson.

    2022 Regular Season Recap

Lost in the shuffle after a fairly early injury in 2022, Jets defensive end Jermaine Johnson showed instinctive prowess as an edge rusher at first when he recorded a couple of sacks, QB hits, and tackles for losses over the first four weeks, adding 12 combined tackles in the same time span for good measure.

We can't say the same after that, as Johnson missed some time with a lingering injury and took a sudden turn for the worse in reduced playing time. He never regained extra snaps and fluctuated as the Jets' third or fourth edge rusher.

The rookie didn't quite live up to what most managers see as a solid first-year season. But in the end, the best we can say for his 2022 production as a whole was fringe at best. As an IDP for fantasy football, wasn't much more than a dynasty stash, if he hadn't hit the waiver wire first.

    2023 Dynasty IDP Profile

We start with the latest from Jets head coach Robert Saleh, on defensive end Jermaine Johnson.

That son of a gun is going to be really, really good.

Believe it or not, this hot IDP deep dynasty take is going to agree with him. That's apparently what PFF sees as well. Grading out Jermaine Johnson as one of the better 2022 defensive end rookies on paper. Despite never seeing more than 40% of the snaps but one time with 50%. And noting, he never was fully deployed as a starter the entire season. And again, despite the mediocre pass rushers, the Jets were deploring all season.

We can't turn to any free agency, contracts, or in-house roster rumors pointing to immediate playing time in 2023, either. And when the Jet's other two main starters, Carl Lawson and John Franklin-Myers, did way better on film last year than expected. Which doesn't do us any favors here.

    Coach Saleh said...
“That son of a gun is going to be really, really good.”

But he didn't say when. And as of right now, and slightly because Lawson and Franklin-Myers did a lot better this past season. And despite the projected increase in time on the field. This IDP guy's deep dynasty hot-take quote is simple...

"It's best to push any real breakout ideas to 2024. Johnson's third year. A notable and notorious season for breakouts and we'll see where the roster is. And then there will be all kinds of edge-rusher value and DL1 to DL2 potential when it does." - The IDP Tipster
