Patrick Surtain delivered on the promise this past week
The Week 13 edition of The Cornerback Corner is here! @Orangeman3142 dives into all of the secondary matchups for every game to solidify your #IDP #FFIDP lineups!
Welcome to Johny the Greek’s Cornerback Corner Week 13. Last week we streamed corner and did it well. I recommended over 60 different corner streams from 15 different Week 12 matchups. The majority of them worked out extremely well.
We sit at 74% accuracy for the season, 76% last week based on those calls matching or beating their projections (Yahoo), and will continue to track accuracy all season long just like last year. Transparency is something we take seriously here at IDPGuys.
Last week I made 66 recommendations. Of those 66, 7 were declared inactive or injured during play, 45 were correct (met or exceeded projection) and 14 were incorrect (below projection).
We don’t count acts of God here (injuries) and I specifically ask people to check for inactives before each game. So, discounting those, I was 76% correct last week and have a 74% accuracy rating for the season overall.
Of those 45 correct calls last week, 16 were “massive hits” (doubled or tripled projection). That is a 35% massive hit rate.
Weekly Accuracy:
- 75% Week 1 Massive Hit: 25%
- 64% Week 2 Massive Hit: 35%
- 67% Week 3 Massive Hit: 34%
- 77% Week 4 Massive Hit: 37%
- 77% Week 5 Massive Hit: 40%
- 71% Week 6 Massive Hit: 40%
- 73% Week 7 Massive Hit: 41%
- 72% Week 8 Massive Hit: 33%
- 69% Week 9 Massive Hit 33%
- 82% Week 10 Massive Hit 35%
- 79% Week 11 Massive Hit 38%
- 76% Week 12 Massive Hit 35%
Season accuracy to date: 74%
Season massive hit rate to date: 36%

Enough of the past, let’s look at Week 13!
Perfect Stream: This is one of the best matchups this week. I will be streaming from these matchups in my own leagues almost exclusively.
Poop stream: This is one of the worst matchups this week. I will very likely have zero corners from this matchup streaming anywhere.
Cornerback Corner Week 13
Buccaneers @ Falcons
Outlook: This game is always a shootout, the Falcons don’t give a shit who the Bucs are, this is division and they play these guys twice a year every year, they know them well. Both sides will be able to score and there will be many points. Great AJ Terrell (CB) week, solid week all around.
Just shy of a perfect stream, having Calvin Ridley (WR) back would have made this a perfect stream. Still, this is one of the matchups I’m personally targeting for my own streaming purposes this week.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Sean Murphy Bunting (CB) Solid
Jamel Dean (CB) Solid (If Healthy)
Pierre Desir (CB) Solid (Deeper leagues, if Dean can’t play AND Davis doesn’t play, otherwise avoid/sit)
Carlton Davis (CB) Solid (If healthy)
All others, Avoid
Atlanta Falcons
AJ Terrell (CB) Solid/Ideal
Fabian Moreau (CB) Solid
No significant third CB option, Hall only played 36% of snaps last week
Cardinals @ Bears
Outlook: We can start our Bears options assuming that Kyler Murray (QB) is able to finally go this week, if it’s Colt McCoy (QB) again we can probably skip this one entirely. Regardless we’ll probably skip the Cardinals options entirely since they’ll be entirely dependent on splash plays for points with the Bears passing attack being mostly not great.
There will be some guys here due to playing time and position but deeper leagues only.
Arizona Cardinals
Byron Murphy (CB) Solid (Deeper leagues)
Marco Wilson (CB) Solid (Deeper leagues)
Robert Alford (CB) Avoid
Chicago Bears
Kindle Vildor (CB) Avoid, healthy scratch last week from what I saw, couldn’t find additional information at time of writing
Jaylon Johnson (CB) Solid
Artie Burns (CB) Solid (Extremely risky, clearly this other CB position is in flux, this is a deep shot in the dark though if you need it, total coin flip in a nice matchup, check inactives and local Chicago beat writer reports before kickoff to try and determine if it will be Vildor or Burns playing the other starting corner slot next to Jaylon Johnson)
All others, Avoid
Chargers @ Bengals
Outlook: Both teams have young, excellent quarterbacks and each team has a wide receiver corps absolutely loaded with talent. This is the way. Start the usual suspects with gusto and zeal.
Los Angeles Chargers
Asante Samuel Jr (CB) Solid (If healthy)
Te’Vaughn Campbell (CB) Solid (Deeper leagues, only if Samuel is inactive, otherwise avoid)
Michael Davis (CB) Solid
Chris Harris Jr (CB) Solid (Deeper leagues)
Cincinnati Bengals
Chidobe Awuzie (CB) Solid
Eli Apple (CB) Solid
Mike Hilton (CB) Solid (Deeper leagues)
Vikings @ Lions
Outlook: We can start our Lions options and hope they force the Vikings into some passing and laying off the Alexander Mattison (RB) game plan. In general, this one is just mediocre. We shouldn’t start any Vikings against this awful Lions passing attack and we’re hoping on some passes to Thielen and Jefferson for our Lions options to be relevant.
Too much needs to go right for this to be good. I’m gonna pass in all likelihood. I can see the appeal for Oruwariye this week with the assumption being that the Vikings will pass far more without Cook around this week, but let’s remember how excellent Alexander Mattison (RB) has been in relief of Cooks this season.
They may not need to change up at all to win this one comfortably.
Minnesota Vikings
Patrick Peterson (CB) Avoid
Bashaud Breeland (CB) Avoid
All others, Avoid
Detroit Lions
Amani Oruwariye (CB) Solid
Jerry Jacobs (CB) Solid (Deeper leagues)
AJ Parker (CB) Avoid (Injury, uncertainty)
Giants @ Dolphins
Outlook: We can start our Giants options, preferably in deeper leagues, against this suddenly decent-again Miami offense but as for the reverse we should skip our Dolphins options against a backup quarterback passing to a shattered wide receiver corps. One half of a decent matchup overall but only in deeper leagues.
New York Giants
James Bradberry (CB) Solid
Adoree Jackson (CB) Solid (If healthy)
Aaron Robinson (CB) Solid (Deeper leagues only, only if Jackson inactive, otherwise avoid)
Darnay Holmes (CB) Avoid
Logan Ryan (CB/S) Solid
Julian Love (CB/S) Solid (Deeper leagues, if Logan Ryan is inactive again for whatever reason he then becomes solid across the board)
Miami Dolphins
Xavien Howard (CB) Solid (Deeper leagues only, will likely be splash play dependent this week with no tackle/pass defense floor to speak of)
Byron Jones (CB) Avoid
All others, Avoid
Eagles @ Jets
Outlook: The Eagles may or may not have Jalen Hurts (QB) at the helm after he was banged up last week, regardless they’ve been trying to run the ball far more often these days so our Jets options aren’t so great. As for the reverse, we can start the usual suspects, but in deeper leagues only.
This Jets passing attack is led by a multitude of mediocre quarterback options and lacks star power in the wide receiver corps, they’ll try and rely on the run game if they can and aren’t too far behind to do so. Deeper leagues, usual suspects, in general not a matchup I’ll be targeting for my personal streaming options.
Philadelphia Eagles
Darius Slay (CB) Solid (Deeper leagues)
Steven Nelson (CB) Solid (Deeper leagues)
Avonte Maddox (CB) Solid (Deeper leagues, doesn’t play as much as Slay or Nelson so factor that into your decision)
New York Jets
Bryce Hall (CB) Solid (Deeper leagues)
Javelin Guidry (CB) Solid (Deeper leagues)
Michael Carter (CB/S) Solid (Deeper leagues)
Isaiah Dunn (CB) Avoid (The fantasy sites are a week behind on this with their projections, they gave him a shot and it didn’t work out)
Colts @ Texans
Outlook: This one has some appeal but only in deeper leagues, could end up being lower scoring and with far more emphasis on the run game but you never know. It is inside so that’s nice at least.
Obvious guys only, deeper leagues only if possible. Hopefully it’s a high scoring affair but even if that’s the case it could be a massive Jonathan Taylor (RB) game and the Colts may not need to pass all that often in this one.
Indianapolis Colts
Kenny Moore (CB) Solid
Xavier Rhodes (CB) Solid (Deeper leagues)
Rock Ya Sin (CB) Solid (Deeper leagues)
Houston Texans
Desmond King (CB) Solid
Terrence Mitchell (CB) Solid (Deeper leagues)
Tavierre Thomas (CB) Avoid (Playing time recently)
Football Team @ Raiders
Outlook: We can start our Washington options against the usually pretty solid Raiders passing attack, and as for the reverse our Raiders options should be fine in deeper leagues against a pretty competent Football team passing game. This has some potential, I’ve got Fuller going in many places this week I do like that quite a bit.
The Raiders passing game does see a slight downgrade without Waller available this week but we’ve seen Moreau be more than acceptable as a backup pass catching tight end for them in the past.
Washington Football Team
Kendall Fuller (CB) Solid
William Jackson (CB) Solid (Deeper leagues)
Bobby McCain (CB) Solid (Deeper leagues)
Las Vegas Raiders
Casey Hayward (CB) Solid (Deeper leagues)
Nate Hobbs (CB) Solid (Deeper leagues)
Brandon Facyson (CB) Solid (Deeper leagues, if healthy)
Jags @ Rams
Outlook: We can start our Jags options against an excellent Rams passing attack that desperately needs a win. As for the reverse we always start Ramsey and we can probably roll out Darious Williams (CB) in much deeper leagues especially since the Jags will be forced into a negative gamescript likely pretty early into this one. There’s some potential here.
Jacksonville Jaguars
Shaq Griffin (CB) Solid (If healthy)
Tyson Campbell (CB) Solid
Nevin Lawson (CB) Solid (If Griffin inactive, otherwise avoid)
All others, Avoid
Los Angeles Rams
Jalen Ramsey (CB) Solid
Darious Williams (CB) Solid (Deeper leagues)
Donte Deayon (CB) Avoid (Playing time & matchup)
Ravens @ Steelers
Outlook: This has low scoring black and blue affair written all over it, we’ll start Humphrey because he’s excellent but beyond that any of the other usual suspects here should be in deeper leagues only. In general this is far from a lock for production and I’d look elsewhere first unless it’s Humphrey, he always starts.
Baltimore Ravens
Marlon Humphrey (CB) Solid
Anthony Averett (CB) Solid (Deeper leagues)
Tavon Young (CB) Avoid
Pittsburgh Steelers
Cameron Sutton (CB) Solid (Deeper leagues)
Joe Haden (CB) Solid (Deeper leagues, if healthy)
James Pierre (CB) Solid (Deeper leagues, only if Haden inactive, otherwise avoid)
All others, Avoid
49ers @ Seahawks
Outlook: We can start the usual suspects in deeper leagues only but with the Seahawks offense being a shell of it’s former self and the Niners being down Deebo Samuel (WR) plus already having a strong tendency to run first, second and last this could end up being less than ideal for our streaming purposes. Obvious guys only, deeper leagues only.
San Francisco 49ers
Josh Norman (CB) Solid (Deeper leagues)
Emmanuel Moseley (CB) Solid (Deeper leagues)
All others, Avoid
Seattle Seahawks
DJ Reed (CB) Solid (Deeper leagues)
Sidney Jones (CB) or Tre Brown (CB) Avoid, fluctuation in who plays that other starting CB slot
Quandre Diggs (CB/S) Solid
Broncos @ Chiefs
Outlook: We’ll absolutely start our Broncos options against the resurgent Chiefs offense that is looking like it’s old self again. But as for the opposite I’m all set. The Chiefs options are hot garbage to begin with and this Broncos passing attack is bad in the first place so we’ll skip that side of things.
Denver Broncos
Patrick Surtain (CB) Solid
Ronald Darby (CB) Solid (Deeper leagues)
Kyle Fuller (CB) Solid (Still somewhat risky but after a couple weeks of ideal playing time and monster box scores I’m doing this myself in several places this week, we sink or swim together on this one)
Kansas City Chiefs
L’Jarius Sneed (CB/S) Avoid (Plays enough though if you need it)
Chavarious Ward (CB) Avoid (Plays enough though if you need it)
Rashad Fenton (CB) Avoid
Patriots @ Bills
Outlook: It’s JC Jackson (CB) week. He’s been red hot and with the pass happy Bills in town it should be his time to shine on the national stage. Beyond that we can start our usual Pats suspects in deeper leagues only.
As for the Bills corners they’re all doable but only in deeper leagues with this run first Patriots offense in town this week. Another half of a nice matchup, a common theme this week.
New England Patriots
JC Jackson (CB) Solid/Ideal
Jalen Mills (CB/S) Solid (Deeper leagues)
All others, Avoid (Playing time, however Myles Bryant could be a sneaky super deep league corner this week if you need it, despite him playing only 27% of snaps last week he has seen increased playing time against pass happy offenses in the past this season)
Buffalo Bills
Levi Wallace (CB) Solid (Deeper leagues)
Taron Johnson (CB) Solid
Dane Jackson (CB) Avoid, only seen one week of fill in snaps for Tre’Davious White after he exited the game against the Saints
Closing thoughts
Remember to check inactives before kickoff to avoid any surprise zeroes! The information here is usually only accurate up until Thursday evening each week, then it gets published and I won’t be editing and updating with any injury news that occurs after that point, it’s your responsibility to track injuries for your own team.
