It's certainly been a crazy week! The free agency frenzy has been at the forefront of news rolling out from the NFL. We've seen some teams shake things up because of the salary cap this season. With players moving on to new teams, it's created some opportunities for some. One of those players, is Kerry Hyder. As a defensive end, Hyder finds himself on a new team. He's primed to become a key contributor and a 2021 IDP breakout candidate!

Kerry Hyder is one of those players who needed to land in the right spot to stay relevant for IDP managers. He's had a few rough seasons throughout his five-year career. He went undrafted in the 2014 NFL draft. Kerry signed a contract to play with the New York Jets but was released that August and was placed on the teams' practice squad. Hyder really didn't get much playing time until he signed with the Detroit Lions. He also some time on the Lions' practice squad as well. But, he finally had a breakout season in 2016! He registered 36 combined tackles, 8 sacks, 11 tackles for loss and 19 quarterback hits that year. It looked like Detroit had gotten a steal off their practice squad.

In the first preseason game for Detroit in 2017, Hyder tore his achilles, ending his season. He moved on to the Dallas Cowboys in 2019. While in Dallas, he was more of a depth piece. Although, he did appear in all 16-games that season. He has sort of been a journeyman during his professional career. In March of 2020, Kerry signed a one-year deal with the San Francisco 49ers. It was expected that he would be a depth piece again for a strong defensive line that included players like Nick Bosa and Arik Armstead. Most of us IDP degenerates know what happened to Nick Bosa and his injury. With those circumstances, Kerry Hyder was thrust into a starting position along a dangerous defensive line.

The 2020 season was a crazy one for a multitude of reasons! COVID-19 and injuries played a huge role in the performance of players we may not have seen if the situation was different. With Bosa out, the 49ers relied on Hyder's experience to help carry their team on through the rest of the season. He was able to put up career high in sacks and tackles. Kerry could possibly be considered San Francisco's best defensive linemen from last season. He was pretty consistent on a week to week basis for them. His performance during 2020 put him in a nice position to look for a new contract during this offseason.

    Situation:

His strong play last season gave him the opportunity to sign a new contract elsewhere. Hyder took a three-year contract with the 49ers NFC West rival, the Seattle Seahawks. When players enter free agency, their relevance depends on their landing spot for IDP fantasy managers. Luckily, Hyder landed in a spot where he should be able to make an immediate impact. The Seahawks definitely needed pass rush help. They traded for Carlos Dunlap before the deadline last season. Seattle also just re-signed Dunlap on a two-year deal as well. So, Hyder won't be the only guy teams have to focus on while preparing during the week. I really love this landing spot for Kerry! It makes him an immediate 2021 IDP breakout candidate.

    Summary:

Right now, Kerry Hyder is probably a steal if you're participating in any IDP dynasty drafts. Shoot, I'd even consider him for redraft this season. As long as he stays healthy, he should be able to give you DE2 or DL2 numbers weekly. He stays active when he's on the field. Always looking to hit somebody and make a play on the ball. Hyder has finally been giving the chance he's been waiting for. I don't see him letting this one slip on by. Kerry can play multiple positions along the defensive line. I expect strong numbers for him this season and can't wait to see what he can do next to Dunlap in Seattle! Don't let this 2021 IDP breakout candidate go unnoticed in your leagues!
