Mr. Peters was doing work this week

Welcome to Johny The Greek’s Cornerbacks Corner week ten. Week nine was a complete and total shit show and as close to a disaster as we’ve come this season. We took advantage of some solid matchups in some places and took it on the chin in others. Last week and were at 61% accurate for the week, not great but we’ll get back on the horse. As the season continues I’m becoming more and more comfortable with the rookies and injury replacement corners I haven’t had a ton of experience streaming with before and the overall accuracy has drastically increased since the first couple weeks of the season. As we know what each teams offensive and defensive strengths look like and continue to learn more every week we should get better and better as the season continues. Let’s get the usual stuff out of the way and get into our week eight options for streaming corner.

If you’re new to this article series the idea behind it is that in the IDP world cornerbacks are the red headed step child, often neglected or scoffed at. Not here. I freaking love streaming corners and have for some time now. We’re going to be looking at things like expected game script, opposing offensive tendencies, snap counts, role and historical production to inform our weekly decisions on what corners are an “ideal” streaming option. By giving this entire thing more than two seconds thought we will have a distinct advantage over our opponents who are not doing this over the course of the season. We are going to put ourselves in the best position possible every week to score the most IDP points humanly possible from our cornerback slots.

Just a little background, I’ve been playing IDP for seventeen years now and streaming corners for well over a decade of that time. I have won many titles in both redraft and dynasty and also in best ball and DFS as well as college fantasy football. I am a true degenerate. Personally I like to stream not only whatever the current week is but if my bench is big enough I’ll load up two more ideal streamers for the following week and by doing so I’ve already taken my pick of the litter a week before anyone else is even thinking about their corners. Corner is a naturally spotty position but by looking at all the factors I listed above we will have better outcomes than the majority of IDP owners who simply put in a “known” corner with a big name (Richard Sherman for example) into their corner slots and ride out the production whether or not that matchup makes sense each week. That won’t be us, we’re going to waterboard our opponents with ideal matchups all season until they drown from our flood of IDP points.

It looks like we’ll have some pretty solid matchups this week and we’ll continue to target those for our ideal matchups but in today’s NFL where passing is the name of the game I’m sure we’ll find solid streaming options in just about every matchup so even those of us in the deepest of leagues have some options. Alright let’s have a look at how we did last week with some transparency and have a look at this week’s matchups. I always give last weeks results as well as an overall season long accuracy because it’s important to be honest and up front with stuff like this, if I’m in a slump and making bad decisions you’ll know it and can decide if you want to follow these streaming suggestions or not.

Last week I made 48 recommendations, of those 9 were declared inactive or injured, 24 were correct (met or exceeded projection) and 15 were incorrect (below projection). We don’t count acts of God here and I specifically ask people to check for inactives before each game so discounting those I was 61% correct last week, 68% accurate for the season overall. Of those 24 correct calls last week 9 of them were “massive hits” (doubled or tripled projection) for a 37% massive hit rate this week which is pretty pretty good. This was our worst week this season for accuracy but we’ll get back on track this week because that’s the only option. At least the massive hit rate was good yet again so there was a silver lining.

Disclaimer Time! I’m not going to get all of these correct. Cornerback especially is a wildly inconsistent position for production in IDP fantasy football. That’s why most people hate it with a passion. My whole thing is to put yourself in the best position to succeed by looking at all the variables and making the absolute best streaming call possible. After that you pray. Your team is your responsibility and yours alone, you set the lineup not me. Take ownership if things go south, these are only suggestions. I will do my absolute best to make sure that these recommendations are the best possible and will base these on factual information and statistics from places like NFLGsis.com, PFF and other fantasy and NFL data and statistics sites. I will also use the force, sometimes a gut feeling is all I have to go on in an unknown situation but if it comes down to that just know this isn’t my first rodeo.

I don’t work for the NFL, I don’t get to sit in on defensive team meetings for all thirty-two teams, I don’t get inside information. If a player has looked solid all season and has been playing a ton of snaps and they get yanked right before a game obviously I had nothing to do with it and since I don’t work for said team no one told me. (See Vernon Hargreaves 2019). If someone goes down with an ACL it’s not because I made a voodoo doll of them and stuck it with pins. These decisions are the same ones I’m making for my teams so if things go bad for you they go bad for me as well. I’m just here to help, don’t kill the messenger.

    Article Key:

Outlook: This will be a brief overview of the two offenses and how that will effect the outlook for each teams cornerbacks corps. We’ll look at offensive ranks, expected game scripts and how the game should go. This will help us identify if this is a matchup we want to target for streaming corners or not.

Ideal Matchup: This is the best possible matchup for this teams cornerbacks, streaming any corners from this team, especially guys that are talented and play all the snaps gives you the best chances at excellent production from those corners.

Solid Matchup: This isn’t a perfect matchup to stream corner but it’s still pretty good, if you’re in a deeper league and have fewer options to stream from this matchup is still a better option than most.

Avoid: This matchup will likely be terrible to stream corner from, due to anything from a god awful opposing quarterback who can’t complete passes to a banged up wide receiver corps or even a run first offense like the 2019 Ravens were (they didn’t pass all that often because frankly they didn’t need to, their run game was ridiculous) there’s something that makes this a bad matchup to stream corners from, avoid if possible. However there may be specific corners who get a “solid” in an otherwise “avoid” matchup simply due to their talent and ability to make plays in all aspects of the defense (see Logan Ryan (CB)).

    Texans @ Browns

Outlook: The sixth ranked Texans passing offense has been red hot lately after starting the season slow and runs into the not very special Browns passing defense this week, towards the end of the pack overall. Browns corners should see plenty of work as Deshaun Watson (QB) and company carve up this defense all game long. On the other side of things the Browns passing attack is not good at all, 28th in the league but then again the Texans passing defense is also terrible and they’ll likely have to try and keep up in a possible shootout, if Roby is back I would fire him up but there’s a lot of uncertainty beyond that for this secondary so that’s the extent of my comfort level with them this week.

    Houston Texans

    Bradley Roby (CB) Solid

    Phillip Gaines (CB) Avoid

    Vernon Hargreaves (CB) Avoid

    Lonnie Johnson (CB) Avoid

    Cleveland Browns

    Denzel Ward (CB) Ideal

    Terrence Mitchell (CB) Solid

    Kevin Johnson (CB) Solid

    Football Team @ Lions

Outlook: The Washington football team is now working with it’s third quarterback of the season and is ranked near the end of the pack for passing in the league, the good news for them is the Lions defense is bad and their pass defense is mediocre, middle of the pack, they should get some work this week. As for the other side, Washington has the best ranked passing defense in the league so it would make sense for the Lions to try and exploit their terrible running defense instead, however Fuller should see enough work like always, beyond that I’m all set.

    Washington Football Team

    Kendall Fuller (CB) Solid

    Ronald Darby (CB) Avoid

    Jimmy Moreland (CB) Avoid

    Detroit Lions

Jeff Okudah (CB) Solid (If healthy)

    Desmond Trufant (CB) Solid

Amani Oruwariye (CB) Avoid (Playing time)

Justin Coleman (CB) Avoid (Playing time)

    Jaguars @ Packers

Outlook: The Packers passing attack is top ten and obviously very good, the Jags is middle of the pack more towards the bad end of things. The Packers have a mediocre middle of the pack pass defense while the Jags is close to last in the league, the Jags corners should see plenty of work as they get carved up all game long. As for Green Bay I would consider Alexander or King if they’re healthy but that’s it, the Packers also have the best time of possession ranking in the league so they could just go up big early and suck the life out of this one.

    Jacksonville Jaguars

    CJ Henderson (CB) Solid

    Sidney Jones (CB) Solid

Tre Herndon (CB) Avoid (Playing time)

    Green Bay Packers

    Jaire Alexander (CB) Solid

Kevin King (CB) Solid (If healthy)

Josh Jones (CB) Solid (If King is injured and out)

Chandon Sullivan (CB) Avoid (Playing time)

    Eagles @ Giants

Outlook: Neither pass offense is great, 27th and 30th respectively, and the Eagles pass defense is quietly fourth in the league. The Giants will likely have trouble completing passes but I’d be alright with Slay if he’s healthy, beyond that no Eagles for me. As for the Giants they are vulnerable to the pass and the Eagles are finally getting healthy with their weapons, I’m starting my Giants corners with confidence this week, Eagles not as much.

    Philadelphia Eagles

Darius Slay (CB) (If healthy) Solid

    Avonte Maddox (CB) Avoid

    Nikel Robey Coleman (CB) Avoid

    New York Giants

    James Bradberry (CB) Solid

    Logan Ryan (CB) Solid

    Isaac Yiadom (CB) Solid

Darnay Holmes (CB) Avoid (Playing time)

    Buccaneers @ Panthers

Outlook: Despite having more weapons than North Korea the Bucs passing attack is still just middle of the pack, Panthers used to be top ten but are currently just outside that at eleven overall. Neither pass defense is special, middle of the pack for both, plus this is division so you never know. Conventional wisdom suggests that the Bucs annihilate Carolina this week after getting embarrassed on national television last week so I’m all about the Carolina corners this week and on the other side we never sit Carlton Davis (CB) and Jamel Dean (CB) has a good chance to be solid as well.

    Tampa Bay Buccaneers

    Carlton Davis (CB) Solid

    Jamel Dean (CB) Solid

Sean Murphy Bunting (CB) Avoid (Playing time)

    Carolina Panthers

    Donte Jackson (CB) Solid

Sam Franklin (CB/S) Solid (If listed as CB)

    Rasul Douglas (CB) Solid

    Corn Elder (CB) Avoid

    Troy Pride (CB) Avoid

    Broncos @ Raiders

Outlook: Middle of the pack for the Raiders pass offense and towards the back of the pack for Denver, despite Drew Lock (QB) being hot fire lately it’s been mostly in garbage time so we can’t say how reliable that will be. However both pass defenses aren’t great either, both middle of the pack as well and it’s division so we may end up with a back and forth affair. We can start the known guys who play enough and sit the rest, overall it’s a decent matchup but there are better ones to stream from this week.

    Denver Broncos

    Micheal Ojemudia (CB) Avoid (Production)

    Kareem Jackson (CB) Solid

Devontae Harris (CB) Avoid (Playing time)

    Las Vegas Raiders

Damon Arnette (CB) Avoid (Unknown role/playing time in possible first game back)

    Travon Mullen (CB) Solid

    Lamarcus Joyner (CB) Avoid

Nevin Lawson (CB) Solid (If Arnette is inactive)

    Chargers @ Dolphins

Outlook: The Chargers now have the fifth best passing attack in the league, this is a smash start for Dolphins corners I don’t care what their defense is ranked, Los Angeles has been slinging it week after week since Herbert took over. As for the Dolphins it was a pathetic debut for Tua but he was exponentially better last week against Arizona, he’s looking good enough that he can start the guys who play enough over in LA but overall I love the Dolphins corners this week and would look for other options instead of going with any Chargers corners in this matchup.

    Los Angeles Chargers

    Micheal Davis (CB) Solid

    Casey Hayward (CB) Avoid

Tevaughn Campbell (CB) Avoid (Playing time/production)

    Miami Dolphins

    Xavien Howard (CB) Solid

    Byron Jones (CB) Solid

Nik Needham (CB) Avoid (Playing time)

    Bills @ Cardinals

Outlook: The seventh and 12th passing offenses in the league, plus both of these offenses overall are putting up a shit load of points each week, this one looks awesome. Neither pass defense is great either, middle of the pack and towards the back of the pack respectively. I’m starting the studs on both sides in this one and feeling great about it, this is the way.

    Buffalo Bills

    Tra’Davious White (CB) Solid

    Levi Wallace (CB) Solid

    Taron Johnson (CB) Solid

    Arizona Cardinals

    Patrick Peterson (CB) Solid

    Byron Murphy (CB) Solid

No third corner of any significance

    Seahawks @ Rams

Outlook: We always start our Seahawks corners because they have the worst pass defense in the league and we always start whoever the other team’s corners are because Seattle lets Russ cook. There will be points. There will be passes. There will be solid streaming corner production, this one and the Bills/Cardinals matchup are the two best for streaming corner this week easily. This is also the way.

    Seattle Seahawks

Shaq Griffin (CB) Solid (If healthy)

Tre Flowers (CB) Solid (If Griffin or Dunbar is injured and out, otherwise avoid)

    Quinton Dunbar (CB) Solid

    Quandre Diggs (CB) Avoid

    Los Angeles Rams

    Troy Hill (CB) Ideal

Jalen Ramsey (CB) Solid (If healthy)

Darious Williams (CB) Solid (If Jalen Ramsey is injured and out, otherwise sit)

    49ers @ Saints

Outlook: The Niners pass attack is obviously not what it used to be, backup quarterback and no all pro tight end plus a hobbled wide receiver corps makes them less than ideal to stream against, however I think we can start the jack rabbit and Lattimore because they usually find a way to get involved regardless, but I would only do so if you have no better options. As for the Niners corners I’m all on board with firing them up this week, well Moseley at least and we’ll see after that. Saints passing attack is ninth in the league and just got Micheal Thomas (WR) and Emmanuel Sanders (WR) back from injury and Covid IR respectively so there will be blood.

    San Francisco 49ers

    Emmanuel Moseley (CB) Solid

    Jason Verrett (CB) Solid

Jamar Taylor (CB) Avoid (Playing time)

    New Orleans Saints

    Janoris Jenkins (CB) Solid

    Marshon Lattimore (CB) Solid

No third corner of any significance

    Bengals @ Steelers

Outlook: This one seems pretty simple upon first inspection but could be one of those division circuses that we never see coming. The Bengals are a top ten passing attack so we can start our Steelers corners like normal, as for the Bengals corners I’m hesitant, this Steelers team could just as easily run it down their throats but we can probably roll out the guys that play enough. Steelers are a go, Bengals only if you have no better options.

    Cincinnati Bengals

    William Jackson (CB) Solid

Leshaun Sims (CB) Avoid (Playing time)

Mackenzie Alexander (CB) Avoid (Playing time)

    Pittsburgh Steelers

    Joe Haden (CB) Solid

    Steven Nelson (CB) Solid

Mike Hilton (CB) Solid (If healthy)

Cameron Sutton (CB) Avoid (Playing time & only relevant if Hilton is injured and out again)

    Embed from Getty Images

    Ravens @ Patriots

Outlook: Neither passing attack is great at all, 31st and 27th respectively, and both passing defenses are solid, ninth and tenth respectively. This looks to be a low scoring affair with not a ton of fireworks, we can start Marcus Peters (CB) because he’s always good and Marlon Humphrey (CB) if he’s back from Covid IR and possibly Stephon Gilmore (CB) if he plays but in general I would look to other matchups this week.

    Baltimore Ravens

    Marcus Peters (CB) Solid

Marlon Humphrey (CB) Solid (If healthy)

    Jimmy Smith (CB) Avoid

    New England Patriots

Stephon Gilmore (CB) Solid (If healthy)

    Jason McCourty (CB) Avoid

    JC Jackson (CB) Avoid

    Embed from Getty Images

    Vikings @ Bears

Outlook: Neither passing offense is great here either, both towards the end of the pack as well. However the Vikings pass defense is 30th in the league and they continue to hemorrhage starting cornerbacks at a ridiculous rate, whoever does end up playing for them may have value and long pole Foles might even have a decent week. As for the Bears side of things I would consider Kyle Fuller (CB) because we always consider him but in general this isn’t a great matchup by any stretch of the imagination, I would look elsewhere to stream from this week. Also the lack of clarity for who will actually play cornerback for the Vikings this week due to the massive injury issues makes them a less than ideal choice to stream from as well, we’re so far past looking at a depth chart with these guys it’s not even funny, we’re into backups for the backups for the backups.

    Minnesota Vikings

    Jeff Gladney (CB) Solid

    Cameron Dantzler (CB) Avoid

    Kris Boyd (CB) Avoid

    Chris Jones (CB) Avoid

    Chicago Bears

    Kyle Fuller (CB) Solid

    Jaylon Johnson (CB) Avoid

Buster Skrine (CB) Avoid (Playing time)

My profile includes multiple titles in survivor and pick em leagues as well. What does all that mean? Nothing except when I do something I tend to overdo it. I have been at this for a long time though so I'll help you with your IDP roster and questions however I can whenever I can. My style is straightforward & conversational, IDP isn't complicated and you're not trying to win an argument on Twitter you're trying to win your league. Come join me weekly in season for "The Monster" where we discuss the finer points of IDP strategy and everything you need to know about every teams defense all season long.
