With the free agency frenzy almost over, we will discuss the winners and losers for the Tight End position. How will this impact their fantasy value and your favorite NFL team?

I will be discussing how the latest free agent signings could affect your dynasty teams as well as potentially help your redraft leagues. Tight end is a position that doesn't have the same value as others but can help make or break your fantasy team. There are some clear winners and losers this free agency but also some diamonds in the rough this upcoming season.

Winners

Dalton Schultz - Houston Texans

Re-signing Dalton Schultz is a big move for the Texans' offense and for second-year quarterback CJ Stroud to continue his success. Schultz started off a bit sluggish in 2023 but ended up as TE10 in PPR having some great games. Lack of consistency still shines through but having Tank Dell and Nico Collins on the outside will help Schultz continue being a top-ten tight end. He's a must mid-draft tight end for your redraft season.

Hayden Hurst - Los Angeles Chargers

Hayden Hurst landed in a spot where he could be a big focal piece in the offense. As of the time when this article was written, the Chargers did not add a lot of pieces to help Justin Herbert succeed. Hurst has the potential to become more than a backup than in years past. He has proven he can be a top-ten tight end in PPR where he was TE9 in 2020 with the Atlanta Falcons. He could have similar success and could be a sneaky play this season.

Jonnu Smith - Miami Dolphins

I absolutely love this move the Miami Dolphins made grabbing Jonnu Smith. He is in a spot where he does not need to be a focal point but can take advantage of the outside receivers, allowing him to have open zones down the seam. When in Atlanta last year sharing time with Kyle Pitts, he was able to have some success finishing top 8 or better four times, mind you with a lesser talented quarterback. Jonnu could be a sneaky tight end for 2024.

Mike Gesicki - Cincinnati Bengals

I know hearing Mike Gesicki in a winning situation has been drawn out and when he landed in New England, there was excitement because he wasn't used properly in Miami. Unfortunately, with quarterback play and sharing time with Hunter Henry, Gesicki never shined. I like this move to Cincy, but I do have hesitation in this offense. They do not normally target the tight end and with the weapons on the outside, I completely understand why. That could change this year and Gesicki has the chance to develop a connection this off-season while Tee Higgins is dealing with a potential trade.

Losers

Noah Fant - Seattle Seahawks

A very athletic tight end unfortunately in a terrible spot. The story of Noah Fant continues. Fant has proven he can make plays when given but in the Seattle offense, he was never a focal point. While in Denver he was able to be TE8 and TE12 prior to heading to Seattle in the trade. With him re-signing in Seattle, his dynasty stock and redraft value has dropped. Currently, at this point, he isn't draftable in redraft and a hold in dynasty unless the offense changes with Pete Carroll gone.

Hunter Henry - New England Patriots

Henry started off 2023 hot with TE1 and TE2 in ppr back-to-back then disappeared most of the season before having a couple of TE4 games. Henry has always had the ability to be a top-ten tight end but unfortunately lacks the consistency. Landing back in New England doesn't help his chances this upcoming season. The lack of weapons on the outside doesn't help clear safeties off of him and the uncertainty at quarterback will hinder his chances as well. At this point, he has no redraft value and is a hold in deep dynasty leagues.

Pharaoh Brown - Seattle Seahawks

Another Seattle tight end on this loser list. With a new regime there, it could change but until the season starts and we see the changes, tight ends in this offense don't have real value. On top of that, Pharaoh will be behind Noah Fant as well. Brown is a talented and athletic tight end but seems to always be used sparingly and seen as the backup. He has no value in dynasty or redraft.

Gerald Everett - Chicago Bears

The landing spot is key for any player, like Everett, and his landing spot puts him in the loser bracket. Now that Justin Fields has been traded, the future quarterback for the Bears will be Caleb Williams and with this new offense, I'm not sure if Everett has any value anymore. He will be competing for playing time with Cole Kmet who has been very valuable, finishing as TE8 and TE7 the last two years. Everett will only be valuable in deep dynasty leagues and zero value in redraft.

Irv Smith Jr - Kansas City Chiefs

Irv Smith has always been a potential value tight end and at this point in his career, he has zero value in dynasty and redraft. Landing in Kansas City some may see that he could have a good game or two but being Travis Kelce and Noah Gray, he will see very limited snaps to zero snaps. I always loved his athleticism and what could have been, but health has always been a concern and not being able to truly develop a connection with his quarterback has hindered his career.
